Our Farmers Work Hard For Your Wellbeing

Our farmers’ days begin before sunrise, with coffee in hand as the hens softly stir and equipment hums to life.

Caring for 80,000 cage-free hens is a steady rhythm they’ve built their lives around: checking feed lines, walking the aisles, monitoring the birds and watching thousands of eggs move gently across the automated packer. Even the kids pitch in before school, learning the values of hard work, responsibility and doing things the right way.

Throughout the day, our farmers work hand-in-hand with Rushtown to manage feed delivery, bird health and logistics — all so they can stay focused on caring for their flock. For them, egg farming isn’t just a job. It’s a way of life.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

Rushtown cage free hens have a lot to do inside the safety of their barn. Our special lighting system mimics natural daylight, giving our hens bright mornings, calm afternoons and dim evenings (the signal that it’s time rest). Here’s how their day typically goes.

As the sun rises and the day begins, Rushtown cage free hens are already stirring — stretching their wings, rustling through fresh bedding and happily clucking to one another. Long tables and rows of perches at various heights encourage our hens to hop, climb and rest wherever they feel most comfortable. They also have plenty of breathing room and open space above their heads thanks to our progressive single-layer system aviary system. And, of course, air is always gently moving throughout the barn, keeping it fresh and comfortable year-round.

We give our hens the ideal stress-free environment for laying our nutritious cage free eggs. When the time is right, the hens slip into private nesting boxes padded with shavings, where they lay their eggs in peace and quiet. EVENING & NIGHT

Throughout the day, Rushtown cage free hens wander between feed lines stocked with nutritionally balanced grain and clean water lines that run the full length of the hen house. Every few hours, the hens gather in little groups. Some perch together and preen, others dust bathe in their bedding material (called dry litter in the hen care world). They all spend time pecking curiously at enrichments placed around the barn to encourage natural hen behaviors. The day is both calm and social — the perfect environment for hen contentment.

As dusk settles and our natural light- mimicking system slowly fades, our cage free hens find their favorite perches for the night, and sleep shoulder to shoulder, safe and relaxed. Tomorrow morning, it all starts again — and that’s what a day in the life of a Rush- town hen is all about: Living naturally, comfortably and cared for every step of the way.
